The planet was located less than one parsec from Tatooine. In many ways the planet was similar to Tatooine, in that it was a rocky, desert world. One notable difference was that the planet had large and dense rings in orbit.
Utapau has large sinkholes covering much of the surface. Entire cities are built in cracks and crevasses in the sides of the massive sinkholes, which extend inwards in perpetual twilight. It is revealed that the main reason for this practice is the existence of water on the sinkhole floors.
The planet is covered by hundreds of volcanic caldera, most of which are in a state of constant eruption. The volcanic activity is caused by gravitational stresses on the planet created by the two gas giants that affect its orbit. An automated energy and mineral collection facility on the planet is used by the Separatist Council as their last headquarters.
A frigid world of crystallized ice that contains many ultramodern cities. This world was colonized by the Muuns in 60,000 BBY. Its only native species, a small lemurlike race, have been reduced to the title of slaves.
